Conservatives control in Surrey - June 05, 2009 The Conservatives have retained control of Surrey County Council following Thursday’s local elections. The Tories have 56 seats and stay in charge of County Hall with a majority of 43 over the Liberal Democrats. Councillor Andrew Povey, who was elected as the Conservative group leader in Surrey in April, will now take over as the leader of the council from June 23 The big story of the night in Elmbridge was in fact Mike Bennison's superb performance in defending his seat in Hinchley Wood, Claygate and Oxshott. Facing the concerted onslaught of the Liberal Democrats, who appear to have entered into a bargain with the Hinchley Wood Residents' Association not to stand against each other, Mike increased his majority from 32 to nearly 600, a massive public endorsement of a hard working local councillor.

If you driving but not parking on site, please do not park in residential streets as this can cause problems for people who live there.
