Cllr Mark Sugden

Mark  is a Claygate Parish Councillor and member of the Claygate Village Association.

About Mark

Mark moved to Claygate a few years ago, having friends who have lived in the Village for many years. He brings significant business and financial experience from his career as an international marketing director and a commitment to do the best for the community in which he lives. Mark has previous experience as a District Councillor and fought hard and successfully in the area he represented to get council funding to build an Age Concern Day Centre.

Mark is already very much involved in local activities in Claygate.  A regular attendee at Claygate Parish Council meetings, he was co-opted onto the Parish Council in 2012 and re-elected in 2015. Mark is also a Claygate Recreation Ground Trustee.

Mark's Priorities:

Claygate comes first! - I will always put the interests of Claygate first. I live here, I am independent - minded and I will not support any measure that is not in the interests of our Village. Hold me to it!

Champion our Community - I will be an advocate for our local community organisations.

Resist over-development -There is a need for new housing but I will resist inappropriate and out of character development and help to protect the Green Belt and our open spaces.

Keep Council Tax down - I will strive to ensure that local taxes are kept as low as possible, but protect frontline services, especially those that support the elderly and vulnerable.

Support our police - I will help support our police in the fight against crime and anti-social behaviour.

Fix Highways and Schools - I am already partnering with our County Councillor to sort out highways issues and ensure we have the best schools and school places.
