Mary Lewis

Mary has been the Surrey County Councillor for Cobham since 2013. She is the Statutory Lead Member for Children on the Cabinet of Surrey County Council. Mary is standing down at the 2021 election.

Prior to her service as a councillor, Mary was a school teacher in the Cobham area and her interest in young people and education informs her work as a Surrey Cabinet Member. Mary has worked with local residents to set up Cobham Community Bus Community Interest Company. She is Vice Chairman of the CIC, which runs the Chatterbus C1 and C2 bus service around the Cobham area. The service aims to meet a range of different needs in the area: helping people to access the Jobcentre Plus in Weybridge; giving access to a variety of retail outlets at Brooklands; providing a good link between the town centre and Cobham and Stoke d’Abernon station; taking children to and from local Infant and Primary Schools; connecting Cobham and Oxshott with Leatherhead and Fetcham on Saturdays; linking up with other bus services to improve connectivity. See www.chatterbus.org.uk for more details.

Mary is a Director of Cobham Cedar Centre Limited, which has leased the community space on the ground floor of the Cedar Centre, underneath Cobham Library, from Surrey County Council and provides a home for Oasis, Cobham Sure Start Children’s Centre and a community room for different community services.

Mary and her husband David have lived in Stoke d’Abernon since 1988. They have three grown up children.

Mary enjoys walking her Labrador in the glorious open spaces that the Cobham area has to offer.

The Olympic Cycling events showed Cobham and Surrey at their best. Mary is keen to keep the Spirit of 2012 alive, adopting a ‘can do’ attitude and encouraging a sense of local pride. Mary is keen to make contact with local residents and organisations and encourages you to be in touch.
