Charu Sood is a Conservative councillor for Weybridge St George’s Hill since May 2018. At the Borough, Charu serves on the South Area Planning Sub Committee, Climate Advisory Board and Licensing. She is also the Shadow Cabinet Member for community and social affairs.
She has been elected as the Events Officer for the Runnymede and Weybridge Association and has also been elected as Chair for the Conservative Women Organisation.
Through the years, she has actively supported various charities in Elmbridge, specifically the ones working for the children, the domestic abuse victims and the homeless. She has been involved in food collection and deliveries for the food bank, provided hot dinners for the homeless at the Molesey Night Shelter and organised gift bag donations and raised funds for domestic abuse victims over the Christmas period.
Charu is a strong advocate for the environment in the local community. She has worked tirelessly in bringing the local businesses, residents, children, and organisations together in doing their bits for the environment. Be it Refill Weybridge (enrolling more than 50 businesses to sign up and help reduce single use plastics) or Weybridge in Bloom (a local community initiative with more than 150 members working to make Weybridge a greener and cleaner place to live, work and do business), her work has focussed on building a sense of civic pride in the local citizens.
Charu wants to leave a legacy of a strong community and civic pride for future generations, especially for her 3 young daughters who are her source of pride and joy. She recognises the importance of family in the society and wants every child to have a happy childhood and a happy family.
